About Central Elementary

About Central

Central Elementary is located in City Heights, above the hustle and bustle of the geographic center of San Diego. We have a gorgeous new campus with a learning commons, magnificent playgrounds, a robotics lab and all NEW classrooms.

Education is very important to our thriving, multi-cultural neighborhood. Many new immigrants find their first home on American soil here. Eighty-five percent of students are Multilingual Learners. We serve our students by providing them opportunities to use their language and develop proficiency in English.

Our motto is: "Work Hard, Be Kind, Dream Big! No Excuses." Many visitors say Central is a magical place. We believe in the power of our dreams. We dare to believe in something that others think is impossible. We tell each other our wishes. Our children learn how to dream big and work hard to achieve those dreams.

We are shaping a democratic learning community, with student academic success and well-being at the center of problem solving, decision making and action. Staff is committed to developing students' academic success through reading, writing, mathematics, science and physical education. Multiple field trips tied to curriculum are offered annually.

Communication with all community members, students, parents, staff and business partners is essential to accomplishing our mission. Grade level teams plan on-going parent involvement events. Partnerships with North Park Lions Club and Lawyers Club of San Diego assist us with providing the knowledge, skills and attitudes for children to become highly literate, contributing, participating members of the community.
